Banknote Security Features

1. Watermark — a portrait of Mao Zedong, visible when held to light.
2. Colour-shifting ink on the denomination numeral (on the ¥100 note) — changes from gold to green when tilted.
3. Security thread — a metallized thread printed with the denomination, embedded in the paper.
4. Intaglio (raised) printing of the portrait and text — perceptible to the touch.
5. A hidden denomination numeral, visible only at a certain angle (a perspective mark for the visually impaired on the ¥100 note).
6. UV-luminescent security fibres and design elements.
7. Microprinting along the border and around the central image.
